When I thought I'd be spending the holidays in Singapore, it would be the usual. But instead I had the opportunity to witness the "Toa Payoh East Weiqi Tournament 2009" on the 12th April 2009, not just as a spectator but as a Judge.

Few days before the Tournament, I went to SWA (Singapore Weiqi Association) at Bugis when James asked out of no where if I can help out with the Tournament due to lack of man power, since it is a good opportunity for me I couldn't decline the offer (although I had to work for it)

This is the top 12 of Group C (13x13 board), the competitors are taking group pictures with the Judges (I was too embarassed to join, so did other judges)

As you can see, it's a big tournament but to SWA, this is considered to be a small tournament (300+ people is considered to be big), The left side of the picture is the Group C while on the right side of the picture is Group A (19x19 board)

This is a Consolation trophy (belonged to Han Song), I couldnt get the pics of the top 3 trophies but they're quite big.

Normally I dislike having students (not stating any reasons why) but exceptions can be made. so far I found out 3 of my classmates are interested in learning the game of Go. Sometime last week they saw me playing Go on KGS and stated that the game looks familar, no surprise they heard the game from an anime called "Hikaru no Go" and asked me if it's possible for me to teach them how to play.

So I decided to teach them the rules of the game as well the basic tactics on a 9x9 board, to my surprise they managed to understand some of the rules quickly (capturing, surrounding, ko, blocking and two-eyes). I sense good potential with-in them, and eager to see how far they can advance.

I'm not quite sure how the game went, but at the beginning, black was leading by a lot and then white managed to take the upper right corner and win the game by 28 points (no komi).

So I'll be teaching them during free time at ITB if there's no work to do, hopefully they can help me to form an ECA Club before the new intake comes in.
